Robert Cahen
Since 1972, Robert Cahen has produced a remarkable body of work for cinema and museums. In Cahen’s nuanced and unique universe, fiction and documentary are presented as metaphorical journeys into the imagination—exquisite reveries depicting the passage of time, places, memory, and perception.
His videos have been broadcast and exhibited internationally at institutions and festivals such as the Paris Biennale in France; the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, USA; the American Film Institute National Video Festival in Los Angeles, USA; the World Wide Video Festival in The Hague, Netherlands; the International Center of Photography in New York; Documenta 7 in Kassel, Germany; FestRio in Brazil; and the Tokyo Festival in Japan.
In 1992, he won the Villa Médicis Hors les Murs award, and in 1995, he created a permanent video installation for the public space of EURALILLE in Lille, France. A comprehensive retrospective of his films and video works was held at the Jeu de Paume in Paris.
His works have also been exhibited at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Strasbourg (France), Mouzakis – Butterfly Factory (Greece), the “Dafni” Attica Psychiatric Hospital (Greece), the Macao Museum of Art (China), the Museum of Time in Besançon (France), the Palais de Glace (Argentina), the Tongyeong International Music Festival (South Korea), and La Virreina (Spain).
